Description

  • The American University of Nigeria is looking for a candidate for appointment as Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost of the University to provide strategic leadership and management in the academic and operational development of the School.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Reporting to the President, The Deputy Vice Chancellor or Vice President Academics/Provost is the Senior Academic Administrator responsible for supervision and oversight of curricular which includes faculty governance, academic budget planning and fiscal management, academic representation, instruction, research and service. The position functions in accordance to AUN’s policies and Procedures under the supervision of the VC/President.
  • Motivating and communicating effectively with faculty members, staff, students and external stakeholders are vital aspects of this role, as well as contributing to the successful development, learning, professional accreditation, and employment outcomes of students.

The Candidate

  • Applications are encouraged from ardent, enthusiastic, and engaging academics research with proven records in academic management at senior levels and delivering impactful academic leadership in teaching and learning, research and scholarship, professional activities, liberal arts education, and community engagement. The position also requires demonstrable ability to clearly articulate the School's vision and mission to stakeholders, including the students, faculty, alumni, and external funding agencies; and experience in innovative course and program design and review.
  • The candidate will be responsible for all operations of the university related to academic Leadership, curriculum, personnel management for the academic division, and budget planning and fiscal management for the academic division.
  • Recruiting and retaining faculty who are outstanding teachers and researchers. Serving on the university’s leadership team and works with the President, Deans and other Leaders, and supporting excellence and innovation in academic programs. Making recommendations for faculty appointments, tenure, promotions, compensation, sabbaticals, leaves, disciplinary actions, and Faculty Development. Implementing and ensuring compliance with all personnel policies as outlined in the Faculty Manual, Personnel Manual and other policies. Working with Deans and other stakeholders to formulate, maintain and implement a high-quality curriculum.
  • Applicants should have a doctorate degree from internationally recognized, accredited university. Applicants should also ideally have at least 5 (five) years of senior level administrative experience at an Educational institute. With the AUN operating in the American liberal arts style, preference if given to applicants with education from United States-based universities or American Universities abroad. A strong commitment to development, an understanding of the essential values of academic integrity, civility, collegiality and diversity in a community of learners, and a distinguished record of achievements in scholarship and service are also required. The Provost would normally be expected to be at least a Doctoral degree holder with substantial academic and educational administration experience.

Requirements

  • Doctoral level or other terminal professional degree required from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as an education administrator is a desirable.
  • Excellent record in teaching, scholarship and service Proven academic and administrative leadership
  • Experience through education, living or working in the American liberal arts style university is preferred.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to build effective institutional partnerships.
  • Proven administrative experience, professional integrity, and strong team-building skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to clearly articulate the School’s vision and mission to stakeholders, including the students, faculty, alumni, and external funding agencies.
