Who We're Looking For

The Head of Engineering is an experienced technical leader with a deep software engineering & computer science background.

The ideal candidate has spent time building and scaling software at technology-focused companies, and was often seen as the go-to technical leader by their peers.

This person is driven by building & shipping best-in-class software products that solve problems for users.

As MAKA’s technical leader, this person is responsible for managing and growing the software engineering team across all disciplines, ensuring software is delivered in line with business needs and ensuring preparedness for rapid scaling.

What You'll Do

You will oversee all aspects of engineering, including: technology strategy & execution, people management (sourcing, recruiting & strategy)

You will build and lead a team of excellent engineers and enable a high-performance culture for the engineering organization

You will solve challenging problems that span architecture, performance, scalability, optimization and more

You will lay the foundation for a healthy and scalable engineering organization - creating guidelines, frameworks and routines that will enable growth for the future

You will ensure the team leverages the latest technology trends to ensure our products are of the highest quality

You will speak to users - at MAKA, everyone talks to the customer and by doing so, you will remain close to the needs of our key stakeholders, and have a customer-first + product-centric mindset to development

Who You Are

You have 2+ years of experience leading a team of engineers as an Engineering Manager or senior

You have 7+ years of experience as a software engineering (including time spent as an Engineering Manager+)

You have the desire to manage a team and provide technical leadership & guidance

You are entrepreneurial: this means you have an ownership mentality, a drive to act and a strong work ethic

You have a strong understanding of our tech stack: Node.js, NestJS, Flutter, Terraform

You have managed teams with multiple direct reports, and have a passion for people management

You have been involved with recruiting and have a strong eye for top talent.

You have a passion for people management and mentorship

You are comfortable in an early-stage startup and are eager to scale with a fast-growing business

You are a skilled communicator and cross-functional collaborator

You are passionate about building world-class products

Bonus:

You have experience with DevOps and managing software with spikes & variation in usage.
