The Duties

The University Librarian is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the implementation of the policy of the University concerning the development of the University Library and the coordination of library services in the University and its faculties, departments and other teaching and research units.
In accordance with section 14 of Yusuf Maitama Sule University Law 2012, the University Librarian shall hold office for a tenure of five (5) years.
The candidates must have clean and impeccable records of service and demonstrate evidence of high level of professional competence.
The candidates must possess high accountability, transparency, integrity and probity.

Qualifications and Experience
The candidates for the post of University Librarian shall possess the following qualifications and qualities:

Must possess a Ph.D. Degree in Library and Information Science or Library Science obtained from a recognized institution and NYSC certificate.
Possession of relevant and recognized professional qualifications obtained from any of the following professional bodies such as LRCN, NLA, IFLA, ALA, etc.
Evidence of proficiency in IT and knowledge of Library databases.
The applicants must have acquired a minimum of fifteen (15) years cognate experience, at least three (3) of which must have been as a Senior Librarian or a senior Lecturer in a University.
The candidates must not be older than sixty (60) years as at the time of taking up the appointment.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of University Librarian in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the University Governing Council.
