As a member of the Process Development and Support team at the MIC (Masonite Innovation Center), this role will lead manufacturing process development initiatives and support senior engineers. Work will be performed at the MIC and through travel to manufacturing plants.
As a Process R&D Intern you will work with engineers and scientists in Masonite's Innovation Center to assist in developing new and improved materials for door construction. The intern assignment will be project-oriented and focus on understanding the effect of moisture content on the molecular level properties of wood through literature and laboratory research.
The internship is designed to support your professional development and provide exposure to the various technical functions within Masonite, while providing clear goals and actionable feedback on your performance. In addition, you will be participating in a program the encompasses:
- Approximately 11 - week assignment at Masonite's Innovation Center in West Chicago, IL.
- Development of personal and professional skills through project experiences, mentoring, and networking.
- Interactions with senior technology and innovation leaders during project activities, individual meetings, and project presentations.
- The opportunity to build teamwork skills through interaction with colleagues and other coops/interns.
- Conduct laboratory and pilot plant simulations of manufacturing processes to support new products and/or research process improvements.
- Perform studies of specific unit operations in production plants to define improvement opportunities. Research potential improvements and partner with an engineer to recommend process modifications.
- Conduct property and performance testing of doors and components produced during process trials. Analyze and present the data in team meetings.
- Support the scale-up of new processes in manufacturing plants.
- Mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering student with an interest in manufacturing process development with at least two years of undergraduate study completed.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and Power Point.
- Should be hands on and have an ability to learn new technologies quickly.
