Job Summary:

We are looking for an individual who will manage a team of electrical engineers, circuit board designers, and
technicians who are responsible for the design of highly innovative medical imaging systems. The electrical
engineering team works closely all aspects of the organization to create products that solve real clinical
problems, improving care, treatment, and diagnosis. The success of these products depends on very high
performance and sensitivity, which, in turn, requires strong expertise in low noise power conversion and
distribution, low noise amplification, grounding, shielding and high speed digital circuitry to support powerful
signal and image processing algorithms. This is a critically important role for Sonosite and will report directly
to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Direct the design of electronic ultrasound hardware modules to meet performance and cost targets
  • Provide technical leadership on major projects and will lead the team to resolve complex technical challenges for ultrasound applications in an FDA regulated environment
  • Influence team members to adopt best practices and sound design methodologies
  • Develop and manage development processes, design quality assurance, design release, product lifecycle management, and ensure that team compliance
  • Participate in specification and design reviews
  • Manage hiring, training, career mentoring, productivity enhancement, continuing education and succession planning
  • Employee performance management (annual reviews, coaching)
  • Strategic resource planning (people and equipment), and budgetary planning and tracking
  • Support Quality Assurance to maintain an approved internal Quality System that meets the requirements of GMP's, QSR and ISO 9001, and FDA
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineering, software, test, integration, reliability, compliance/regulatory, verification, qualification, manufacturing, program management, etc
  • Coordinate electronic designs with high speed digital, low noise analog, power supply design, EMI/EMC performance and associated simulation tools
  • Lead innovation in complex board design and have the ability to work through detailed design issues with other teams (examples include: system design, software design, thermal, size, weight, power, reliability, and performance)

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Accredited Engineering Degree - BSEE (MSEE preferred)
  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience - development across full product life cycles - concept to production to release of products in a field with strong parallels to medical ultrasound systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronics supply chain, evaluation of components, component assembly, board fabrication, design and materials
  • Demonstrated competence in all aspects of product level medical hardware development including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and system integration
  • 2+ years of experience leading highly successful electrical engineering teams
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills, including ability to effectively interact with cross functional engineering teams throughout the development cycle
  • Demonstrated proficiency with project management tasks such as schedules and documentation control tools.
  • ISO, FDA or other regulated industry training and experience.
  • Experience with low noise power supply design and EMI/EMC is strongly desired
