Job Duties/ Responsibilities

Candidate should have worked for a top law firm in Nigeria and should have at least 5 years cognate experience as an in-house counsel with a bias for a financial organisation
Excellent communication skills, negotiation skills, strategic thinking, stakeholder management e.t.c
Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
A keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Strong understanding of banking laws and regulations, corporate governance, contract law, and compliance requirements specific to the banking industry
In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance requirements. Should be well acquainted with the regulatory environment
Proficiency in handling legal disputes, litigation, and arbitration proceedings, and the ability to protect the organization's interests
Skill in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and regulatory risks that could impact the Bank
Negotiate, draft, and finalize commercial contracts with clients and vendors while ensuring that all contracts comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Manage contract administration, including monitoring performance, tracking deadlines, and processing change orders
Identify and resolve contract disputes efficiently and cost-effectively
Maintain a comprehensive contract database and filing system
Customers Collateral Document Management.
Litigation Management: Manage external legal counsel when necessary and monitor legal expenses.
Handle or oversee the resolution of legal disputes, and work to protect the Bank's interests
Keeping track of Land and Corporate Search requests made to vendors in that regard.
Provide legal advisory and counselling to the executive management and employees on a wide range of legal matters (labour law, bank-customer relationship, corporate finance etc.)
Collaborate effectively with other stakeholders
Organize training programs on legal and ethical matters to employees, promoting a culture of compliance and integrity
Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws, safeguarding sensitive information and client data
Prepare and submit regulatory reports as required by relevant regulatory authorities
Build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities, external legal firms, and industry associations
Management of the Bank’s intellectual property
Assist external Company secretaries on board governance matters
