Responsibilities

Coalfire’s Director of Product Engineering is a product development leader that is able to recruit, inspire, and leverage the talents of a group of engineers and product owners in order to deliver solutions that exceed our customer’s expectations. This person has a wholistic view on the product development lifecycle and embraces continuous improvement methodologies. This person has a passion for agile project management and is able to design the processes necessary to orchestrate the entire application lifecycle. They act as a conduit to translate between the business and technical teams and are capable of running a multi-team department effectively.

  • Ownership of one or more technology products, including their design, delivery, maintenance, monitoring, operations, scalability, and support
  • Manage 3 or more Agile SCRUM teams, multiple team leads, and other managers in order to regularly meet and exceed business objectives
  • Manage, coach, and integrate supporting staff such as UI engineers, product owners, and SCRUM masters in order to maximize team effectiveness
  • Act as the ultimate owner of quality and ensure all products meet or exceed internal standards
  • Foster an environment of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with the end-customers, product management, and the business to deliver a product that delights our customers
  • Empower teams to reach their maximum potential
  • Translate business strategies and goals into obtainable and measurable business objectives
  • Manage vendors and vendor relations, reviewing our tools and services regularly to ensure we are maximizing value to our teams and our customers
  • Ensure the teams meet or exceed all lead time, deployment frequency, mean time to restore, change fail percentage, quality and other metrics as established by management
  • Coordinate with other technology leaders to establish a best-of-breed methodology for delivering products and solutions to Coalfire and its customers
  • Establishing a culture that encourages honest candor, transparency, and recognition.
  • Stay up to date on technologies and trends and be capable of making informed decisions about technology investments
  • Manage, prioritize, and justify the business case to keep technology debt under control
  • Work with engineering management and Coalfire’s security team to ensure the application is both secure and compliant

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in software development, primarily in a SaaS environment that uses Agile methodologies
  • 3+ years in engineering team management, especially in departments where you have been responsible for multiple teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, or a similar field
  • Advanced degree, especially in business is preferred
  • A proven track records of delivering technology products on time, on schedule, and on budget
  • Understands the fundamentals of good software product development
  • Able to manage dozens of internal and external stakeholders and prioritize/productize their feedback into objectives for the team
  • Able to effectively manage, track, and inspire remote teams
  • A deep understanding of agile project management methodologies and how they can be implemented at scale
  • Able to create an Agile software development ecosystem of tools, processes, and people
  • Capable of holding architecture meetings and being the final decision maker when disagreements arise, all while balancing the business and technical objectives
  • Coach and create an ecosystem of continuous learning across their teams
  • Able to make plans for products, and internal team improvements, up to 1 year out
  • Able to screen and grow the team with highly talented staff and contractors
  • Knowledgeable of good cybersecurity practices and hygiene and able to foster an environment where the teams are also aware of these expectations
  • Ability to operate technology product organizations using cloud-native techniques and methods
  • A strong advocate for and practitioner of automated testing
  • Work to integrate external acquisitions into the larger technology ecosystem, fostering good practices and a unified culture
