Job Summary

We seek a Director of Institutional Philanthropy to oversee fundraising, stewardship, and cultivation of institutional supporters (foundations, corporations, collaboratives and government agencies) that help advance our mission. The position will work with the Vice President of Development and Chief Engagement Officer to develop annual fundraising goals and manage a team to steward existing funders and engage new supporters to achieve those goals. The Director will supervise two staff members and support their professional development to achieve revenue goals and advance the organization’s mission. The Director of Institutional Philanthropy may also supervise consultants, as needed. The Director of Institutional Philanthropy will report to the Vice President of Development.

About Prosperity Now’s Development Team: Prosperity Now’s Development Team is a high-energy, high-performing team of professionals who work under the leadership of Prosperity Now’s Vice President of Development to secure the resources necessary to advance Prosperity Now’s mission. The Development team and the Communications Team work report into the Chief Engagement Officer and collectively serve as Prosperity Now’s external affairs team, strategically engaging stakeholders across a single, integrated continuum. The Development Team raises funds from multiple sources, including institutional funders, corporate funders, the public sector, and individuals.   • Work with Vice President of Development and Director of Individual Philanthropy to supervise, coach, and develop a high-performing development team, fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and trust within team; communicating vision; defining roles and objectives; and providing the guidance, resources, and facilitation needed for effective operations
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Development to develop annual fundraising goals for institutional revenue (comprising ~72% of annual revenue) and create and implement annual cultivation and stewardship plans to increase revenue from institutional funders
  • Manage large-dollar, high-stakes grant and contract opportunities across all Prosperity Now’s programmatic areas and create opportunities to secure general support from institutional investors
  • Develop and oversee internal institutional revenue protocols, calendars, dashboards, and communications channels to ensure timely and accurate deliverables to leadership and to funding partners
  • Collaborate with Prosperity Now’s Leadership Team and members of the program teams to ensure compelling, timely concept notes and proposals to corporate, foundation, collaborative and government funders to increase the organization’s impact and financial resilience
  • Serve as team liaison and thought partner to organizational leadership and program teams to advance programmatic and organizational goals and address priorities and needs
  • Engage organizational and programmatic leaders to identify prospective new funders and ensure that key internal stakeholders have the information and support they need to methodically cultivate relationships and secure funding
  • Work with Vice President of Development and Director of Individual Philanthropy to build, maintain and evaluate internal systems to support an organizational culture of philanthropy and accountability
  • As a member of the Senior Management team, participate in internal leadership meetings; provide input and advice on organizational policies and priorities; and build team culture and connection to organization-wide strategy and mission
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least five years of experience fundraising for mission-driven nonprofit organizations in the institutional donor sector
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as key strategies toward broad-based institutional excellence, representing a range of perspectives, thought, and actions
  • Stellar written communication skills with demonstrable success creating compelling proposals to secure grant funding
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, including funders, organizational leaders, and team members at all levels of the organization
  • Strong verbal communication skills to share complex information clearly and efficiently
  • Experience leading a high-performance development team to achieve annual goals and implementing tracking and evaluation methods
  • Ability to think critically and ask questions that advance conversations with diverse stakeholders
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and to coach direct reports to do the same
  • Commitment to building stability, wealth, and prosperity for all individuals and families in the U.S.
  • Previous experience with donor databases and/or CRMs, particularly Salesforce, a plus
  • Previous program design, implementation, and/or evaluation experience a plus
