Job Description Summary:
The Dean of Business and Advanced Technology has the primary authority and responsibility in all matters relating to the programs within the School of Business and Advanced Technology. The Dean is responsible for the supervision of all Business and Advanced Technology full and part time faculty and staff assigned to the departments. The primary duties include the integration, coordination, and efficient and effective operation of all instructional processes to ensure that adequate personnel and facilities are available for effective instruction, as well as to provide effective leadership for planning, growth, and improvement of the programs.
Masters Degree in a business or related field
Five years minimum teaching experience in higher education.
Three years minimum experience in higher education administration.
Experience working in a unionized environment
Doctorate in higher education or related field
Experience within a community college environment
Management experience within academic or business setting
Knowledge of multiple business and industry programs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of the programs of learning, ensuring the continuous cycle of evaluation and curriculum improvement to assure the quality and viability of all regular instructional programs and courses.
Work with the Vice-President of Instruction and other deans to develop and enact strategic plans related to the instructional division, especially in the areas of enrollment, retention and long-term sustainability of programs.
Collaborate with the Vice President of Instruction to recruit and hire qualified full-time and part-time faculty and staff whose performance is consistent with the mission and vision of the College.
Supervise and evaluate the Business and Advanced Technology staff through a comprehensive program of professional development, goal-setting, and review of college-endorsed evaluation tools.
Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and full-time faculty within the School of Business and Advanced Technology.
Manage and coordinate the Carl D. Perkins grant with the Michigan Department of Education.
Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, regional and national agencies, as well as appropriate high schools and 4-year institutions.
Prepare and control the expenditure of approved budgeted funds for the programs.
Keep informed of trends and assure that the Schools programs remain competitive and current in regard to standards of practice.
Ensure that applicable accreditations (i.e. NATEF) are maintained and/or acquired as appropriate.
Serve as the colleges primary academic liaison for Career and Technical Education conversations within the region.
Oversee and coordinate program-specific advisory committees within the School of Business and Advanced Technology.
Recommend courses within the curriculum to be added, altered or deleted.
Recommend teaching and course schedules for programs that meet student needs.
Provide for the orientation of all newly hired faculty both full and part time.
Participate in development and implementation of policies and procedures which affect students and faculty.
Recommend the utilization and maintenance of classroom and laboratory facilities.
Supervise record keeping practices and procedures for the programs.
Evaluate, as necessary, student academic records such as transcripts of previous college level work, curriculum variance applications, and applications for graduation.
Provide reports and data to the College as requested.
Serve on college committees as appropriate.
Work with admissions for the recruitment of new students.
Actively participate in related consortiums, partnerships, organizations, etc.
Assist in the marketing of the college and its efforts.
