Overview
We are looking for a hands-on and experienced Compliance Manager with a legal background, you will be responsible for ensuring that Busha complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Your primary objective will be to expand our business into new markets and ensure we implement our business structure within the Fintech industry.
You will collaborate closely with Product managers, Customer Support, and other stakeholders to bridge the gap between development and operations while adhering to strict industry regulations specific to cryptocurrency and fintech.
Responsibilities
Provide legal advice to management and provide support to the board of directors as needed.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal instruments.
Oversee international communication, providing support and establishing relationships with other teams like Product, Support, and HR.
Manage client due diligence and client onboarding program, conducting KYC compliance for retail and corporate customers, conducting AML checks, intake controls, sanctions screening and counter-terrorism finance checks for customers.
Improve our compliance processes by utilizing technology for KYB and KYC reviews, contract management, ongoing monitoring, transaction monitoring, financial crime investigations, fraud investigations, sanctions, sanctions screening, and related purposes.
Develop and implement a comprehensive compliance plan and policies using international best practices, including regular review, and revamping of policies and procedures.
Work closely with support and product to simplify the process and onboard businesses. Conduct internal relevant investigations and risks assessments and manage law enforcement requests and data subject access requests.
Manage partnerships with external counsel across various countries.
Manage the company's internal data protection audit program and ensure compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau.
Requirements
Nice to Have:
Master's Degree in Law, Business or a related field
Ability to think proactively and be a self-starter
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
The ideal employee must have:
A Nigerian-qualified lawyer
7+ years of proven work experience in legal and compliance roles
2+ Years experience in legal or compliance management roles
Strong understanding of business/economics and legal matters
Experience managing contracts and litigation matters
Experience obtaining licences.
Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations for legal business set-up
Multi-jurisdictional experience.
