Job Description
Review and evaluates compliance issues / concerns within the organization and ensures compliance with all statutory regulations/internal policies.
Collaborates with other units (e.g. Legal) to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
Consults with the Legal Officer as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the
general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.
Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.
Monitors, and coordinates compliance activities of other departments/units to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep the
Board and Management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
Ensure preparation of weekly NFIU returns
Responsible for monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and yearly returns to NAICOM and NFIU
Review of underwriting files and ensuring that “know your customer (KYC) forms are maintained in underwriting files.
Job Requirements
Candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or any other related discipline
Minimum of 12 years post NYSC work experience in Compliance, preferably in the financial industry with at least 6 years in a managerial position
Membership of one or more relevant professional bodies (i.e. ICAN, ACCA) is required
Broad experience in creating risk analysis and control, service standards, operational policies and guidelines.
Excellent knowledge of insurance operations, structure, policies and procedures.
