As an Acoustics R&D Intern, you will work with engineers and scientists in Masonite's Innovation Center to assist in developing new acoustic door and door system solutions that meet performance and cost targets.
The Intern assignment will be project-oriented and focus on measuring performance in Masonite's state-of-the-art acoustic door lab, data analysis, and assisting in prototype builds. The internship is designed to support your professional development and provide exposure to the various technical functions within Masonite, while providing clear goals and actionable feedback on your performance. In addition, you will be participating in a program the encompasses:
- Approximately 11 week assignment at Masonite's Innovation Center in West Chicago, IL.
- Development of personal and professional skills through project experiences, mentoring, and networking.
- Interactions with senior technology and innovation leaders during project activities, individual meetings, and project presentations.
- The opportunity to build teamwork skills through interaction with colleagues and other coops/interns.
- Perform acoustical measurements for doors systems and components per established procedures.
- Perform data analysis, including correlation with acoustic theory.
- Document results and present to MIC engineers and scientists.
- Participate in meetings to review results and brainstorm further product enhancements
- Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering student with at least 3 years of undergraduate studies completed.
- Focus on acoustics and/or structural dynamics is a big plus.
- Must be proficient in Excel, Word, Matlab (or similar).
- Prefer someone experienced in signal processing, basic acoustic measurements, programming in SQL or C++ (VBA, etc.).
- An interest in music (playing an instrument or running a sound board) a plus.
